2 Lions, Mir and Simba rescued from Ukrainian war-zone.
Mission Accomplished… Big Cat Rescue #8
Mir which translates to Peace from Ukrainian was rescued in March 2022 just after the Russians invaded Ukraine. He was being held by a cruel private owner who let him live in his own feces and left over food and did not even have clean fresh water when we found him. Mir also had a brother whom the owner sold after the two had been together for 3 years since birth. I can only imagine the trauma they both experienced at their lives being torn apart again, the first time being when they were removed from their mother. Mir then had to live alone for nearly a year before we rescued him. He had no company because he lost his brother and without any enrichment. I relocated him to a temporary facility in Romania while we raised the funding needed to get him and Simba to their furever home at Simbonga in South Africa.
Simba also comes from a private owner who kept him in a small dark cell like cage with very little natural light. He was the last animal to be extracted from a bombed out Dnipro zoo. He too waited at the same facility in Romania with Mir while we finalized their final relocation.
Both Mir and Simba were kindly given a temporary home in Romania which was arranged by Roxana Ciornei of Casa lui Patrocle an animal rescue organization based in Suceava. Roxana went above and beyond to help us get into the country from Ukraine with the 2 boys.
Now both boys are living the best life at Simbonga our sanctuary in the Eastern Cape, South Africa.
